Niparajá is a Mexican nonprofit civil association, created in 1990. We believe that the natural heritage of the Baja California Peninsula and its surrounding waters are unique, therefore, they must be preserved to maintain the ecological integrity of the region and to ensure the welfare of its inhabitants. Niparajá exists to respond to this need through the development of innovative conservation models and good governance of the natural heritage. Our purpose is to help to create an exemplary society; where numerous people, groups and institutions have the abilities, trust and social support to solve environmental problems and to achieve positive changes for them and for the environment. Ours is a vision of present and future possibilities for our region and for everyone. Currently, three work programs define and guide our efforts: MARINE CONSERVATION Our purpose is to preserve ecologically important marine and coastal areas, as well as key natural resources in the Gulf of California. To achieve this, we work very close with the local coastal communities, with resource users and with diverse social, private and government institutions Projects: - Strengthening the management of Espíritu Santo Marine National Park

LAND CONSERVATION Through this program, we protect land and coastal key habitats in the Baja California Peninsula. This program is also focused to catalyze rural economies, which are based in social and environmental opportunities, in which sustainability and welfare of the local habitants are the main values of the economic system. Projects: - Protecting the Corridor San Cosme-Punta Mechudo through private conservation mechanisms.
- Promoting the creation of a Biosphera Reserve to protect the natural and cultural heritage of Sierras la Giganta and Guadalupe.
- Building sustainable rural models of development and strengthening the capacities of the Corridor San Cosme-Punta Mechudo communities.
- First steps towards the conservation of the wetlands of Bahia Magdalena.
WATER Water is a key topic in our conservation work. Through this program, we look forward to promote an integrated perspective for the management and use of water. In particular, we are interested in facilitate and integrate the participation of the different stakeholders of the society, creating solutions to the challenge that water represents in our desert region. Projects: - Water Dialogs: Promoting an integrated management perspective of water uses in La Paz watershed.
