Vallarta Confronts AIDS (Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA, A.C., or V.E.S. in Spanish) mission is to confront the HIV epidemic in the greater Puerto Vallarta region, which ranks 4th among all cities in Mexico in reported cases of HIV. We are the only non-profit organization in a region comprising over 400,000 residents that is focused on confronting HIV. Our comprehensive programs include:

• Medical, social, and psychological support for individuals and families affected by HIV;
• Free HIV testing, along with comprehensive counseling, education and prevention programs aimed at risk-reduction and behavior modification that target youth, men who have sex with men, commercial sex workers, and women;
• A mobile testing and counseling vehicle that allows us to go out to local and marginalized communities and provide our services where people live, work, and play (including right where they seek sexual encounters);
• Fighting to reduce the fear, stigma, and discrimination associated with HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.

Puerto Vallarta has new visitors and residents coming and going constantly. Many in the region are economically and educationally challenged. So we must reach out consistently and constantly over a wide geographic area with our message and services. Government resources for prevention and education are extremely limited.
